Subject: Trouble w/vmunix.516 (fwd)
Sender: NetBSD-Admin@cbmuucp.commodore.com
Just wanted to let you know, that #516 works with syncronous mode,
while I only got #508 to work asynchronous. Great thing!
Does synchronous mode speed up things a lot, or where are the advantages?
In the manual of the new Gigdrives we got for our Suns at work they say,
"if you add more drives you should recompile the kernel and use
asynchronous mode". I wonder why? Anyways, we did not try - we just had to
spread the drives all over our suns, because as soon as you put the dattape
and one of those drives together - or an old gig drive (synchronous also)
with one of them, nothing worked any more. The thing does not boot anymore
and kills your superblock ;(
